1st of all, if you get “The archive is either unknown format or damaged.”, then it just means, you got a corrupted WinRAR file.

If you get the not enough free disk space to complete current operation, that’s literally what it means - not enough space on your partitioned drive. Either change it to some other drive with enough space with some 3rd party partitioning program, or clear some space on the drive you’re using.
While I’m at it, I declare, please, convert your drive to NTFS if you’re using one that’s FAT32, as FAT32 drives have a 4gb limitation for file size. So if the file you’re trying to extract is more than 4gb in size (The extracted files, not the .RAR file itself.)
To convert, type “C: /FS:NTFS” in command prompt, without quotes and change the drive letter if necessary.

Lastly, don’t take answers for granted like “Where are the damn answers to all these questions"

i’ve a few rar files that are secured with a password. i’ve tried using rar password recovery (5 different softwares including elcomsoft’s) but all the softwares were unable to crack/recover the passwords in those files.

i’d appreciate if anybody could post the details of a rar file (ie the file structure, signature and where in the file the password is stored, etc). then, i could hexedit the rar file and store a known password (say test123) encryption at those bytes, and retrieve the contents.

to reiterate, what i said was, if i could get the details where a rar password is stored encrypted, i could store a known encryption for, say, the word “test123”. this way i can replace those password bytes with the encryption for test123 and then extract the contents with the password “test123”.

thanx in advance.

Your modus operandi fails. The entire file is encrypted using that password. What good would a password be if it was just some bytes stored in the RAR, with the actual files unencrypted?

I dunno if anyone still looks at this but........

I have a couple RAR files I DL’d a couple days ago. They took forever to download and indicated 150 meg in the file (as listed).

YET when I open the RAR file, there is nothing in it.

Why is this???

EMPTY RAR - EMPTY FOLDER - SAME NAME AS FILE

For all those who download rar files just to end up with an empty folder with the same name as the file they were supposed to have downloaded, the answer is very simple.

Get WINRAR. Using other decompression WILL NOT WORK on some rar files. WINZIP WILL NOT DO IT for example. you need the ORIGINAL WINRAR PROGRAM.
That’s all, thank you for reading.

rar file, EMPTY RAR, EMPTY FOLDERS, empty folder instead of file
REPOSTING SO THE POST WILL SHOW UP IN SEARCH ENGINES...

READ ABOVE READ PREVIOUS POST

ALSO WHEN YOU LOSE A PASSWORD TO A zip or rar file the best thing to do is go back to where it was you got the links from and get it!
Browse your history and you will eventually find it. I have tried most password finders and they failed miserably so... BE smart, get passwords, save them on a txt file on your desktop.

Rar to ISO?
There is NO SUCH THING.
R E A D CAREFULLY:
Get winRAR http://www.rarlab.com and unpack the rar file.
If the Original file was an ISO you will get an ISO file.
If not, well...
