i recently came acroos this problem so i decided to share it w/ the community. If u ever get a file that looks like this after u extract the files for the first time [.001 .002 .003 .004 .005 etc] then u have to change those to files to look like this [.r01 .r02 .r03 .r04 .r05 etc] at which point the files will automatically change to rar files which u can extract into the whole file by extracting the first file. you will know if the file is gonna need this done to it when u select it for d/l from the torrent tracker where it lists the files. if u see a whole bunch of files listed then ur probable gonna have to do it this way hope this helps some1

u have to change all the files from .001 .002 to .r01 .r02 all the way up to .r43 while u are changing the files u will notice that they will chang to winrar files once u hit enter. once u have that done just use winrar to extract the first file and wah la.

first i downloaded a .rar file. then i downloaded winrar in order to extract the file so that i can play it on realplayer or windows media player. the problenm is that i dont have a clue of how to extract the video file.

i tried to extract the file in order to play it on windows media player but i have no clue what happened. as of now at the end of the file name it has .wmv but before it was a .rar file. furthermore when i do try to extract the file an error sign pops up saying that i need the file in another place to extract it. i really need some help because i have no clue what i am doin

to Ismal:

That format of RAR file you have...try just right-clicking it and select “Extract to (whatever name of file it is)"...should either open up RAR and do it, or fail again for you.

to ismal: (ALSO: to admins at bottom of post)

also...if you REALLY don’t understand RAR and want to learn the in’s and out’s of it...e-mail me.

...I’m in the process of making a text that will hopefully keep the new people (commonly called newbies or noobs) from posting questions that are (in fact) a LOT more basic from this because many videos or music can’t be compressed much more than they allready are since their codec’s used usually does a similar or better job of it...only reason compressing a video is good for is if you have a slow connection or if you want to ensure the file WILL be in good shape when it gets to it’s destination (if you add in a larger record in RAR anyways to preserve more info...which makes it larger..ect ect ect....).

to admins:

when I get the text made (unless others beat me to it or you’d rather have it done differently)...I’ll post it here in your forum (I hope FAIRLY small one atleast, but RAR or ANY compression program does have a lot of info you know:P )

It means that you started to extract the wrong archive. Try starting with the last archive, if it doesn’t work either, you don’t have all of the archives.

hi all....
i’ve been having some problems with the rar files, ive downloaded a huge .rar file, but it seems when i try to open it, all it gives me is that “the archive is either in an uknown format or damaged” even though the file is a .rar file i even checked the format, so how about if its damaged, can it be fixed or anything, and i even tried to repair it using the winrar itself, but it didnt seem to work, so is their any solution for this or i need to download the file again? thanks for ur help..
